Our founders were the first in the City of Toronto to use salt for de-icing the city’s roadways. Today, we are proud to continue their legacy of quality and innovation.

Our History

In 1886, the Cliff family founded the Toronto Salt Works. This family-run organization steadily grew, gaining a reputation for quality products and innovative service. Prior to the opening of the Welland Canal, when rail was the conventional salt transport, Toronto Salt Works became the first to utilize the Great Lakes for shipping. The Cliff family was also the first in the City of Toronto to supply and apply rock salt for de-icing streets and sidewalks.

Toronto Salt & Chemicals Limited takes pride in continuing as a Canadian-owned and operated company, with all our Cliff Brand products produced here. Our ongoing leadership position in the marketplace comes with a heartfelt thank you to all our clients for their trust and confidence.

We minimize our carbon footprint by utilizing a full fleet of electric forklifts, clean diesel trucks and LED warehouse lighting, and all areas are clean, organized and stocked for your next order.

Using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) business management software for ordering, our clients can feel confident with this fully-integrated system that offers features like seamless order processing, shipment tracking, easy traceability and real-time communication.
